Springing Forward

Our forecast huge ice storm was a no show. This is the third time this has happened in the last month. I'm not complaining at all, as it turned out to be a very pleasant first day of spring.

After this morning, if my sister tries to leave, my son will probably sit on her - because I can't. She baked cookies this morning. They were some kind of cinnamon delights and the house still smells amazing. I limited myself to two before lunch but it was very hard. I'm on a healing journey and too many cookies wouldn't be the best medicine - two I can justify. Did I mention that I mean two cookies per meal?

I've been a good patient today, and took it easy. One of my aunties called this morning and we spent an hour and or so on the phone. I'll never catch up on a week of missing the blogs on my morning blog roll but I gave it an honest effort this morning while I smelled the cookies baking. Someone loaned me the first season of Nip Tuck which I had never seen so we did a bit of that this afternoon. I'm not a TV person and have only two channels. Nip Tuck only became available to me only during it's second season so it's good to see the prequel to that.

My situation reminds me of an Ingrid Mickelson song, Breakable. I just have to keep reminding myself. One of the ways people find my site is from searches for Ingrid. I'll add another of her songs today that I like a lot, The Way I Am. It reminds me of the love songs, When I'm Sixty-Four by The Beatles and Stan Rogers' lovely, Forty-Five Years From Now. Here another sweet love song, Morning Lullabies, from her album, Slow The Rain. Another from that album is A Bird's Song.

Beans, Bibs and Birds

The smell of home-made baked beans are wafting through the house. I can't safely take them out of the oven so I've turned the oven off and they can sit. I had some to try and they're very good. Before I put them in the oven, I put a couple of cups in a small casserole dish, added some leftover pork with a tikka masala curry sauce mixed in, and put it in the oven at the same time. I tried some of that too and yum - I've invented a new recipe. I have some nice crusty rolls and if you add some cold milk, you have a complete protein and a delicious, easy supper.

I'm a little clumsy/off balance eating with just my left hand and every day have food spilled on my clothes. I may have to get a bib. There's probably some left at my grandchildren's house or maybe my son could just pin a towel around my neck. Are you laughing yet at the thought of this? I am.

I have no songs about beans, napkins, or complete proteins but have a couple that are suitable for the photo. Black Crow is a Joni Mitchell song and here is Diana Krall's wonderful version. I know these are ravens I feed but Black Raven is not a song I can find anywhere. Ingrid Mickelson is leaving us with A Bird's Song.

Running Out Of Steam

We did the two and a half hour hike today in three hours. After yesterday's same hike that followed an eight hour shift on Sunday where I didn't sit down and Saturday's hour and a half, I've done enough for this week. This route is incredibly hilly so you get a tremendous workout and I can certainly feel overuse in a few joints. The steep hills are good leg and butt toners so we're happy about that but my hip needs rest. Someone has promised me a pedometer and will bring it someday soon. I'd be interested in finding the mileage on this hike. We went back through the woods as it is shorter and a bit less hilly than yesterday's route. Yep, taking a bit of a break from the hills.

I injured my eye today. I'm sure I scratched the cornea or something like that. It may be scratched or stabbed. I bent down to pick some clover for the horses and went eye-first into a stalk of something very sharp. I should rest my eye too.

Breakable is the first very appropriate song today. Have to remind myself sometimes not to overdo. It's by Ingrid Mickelson. Second song is by Feist - I Feel It All.

For Da Birds

I'm feeling exceptionally lazy today and managed only the basic chores and a bit of outdoor work. With my normal high energy level it's perfectly ok to have a lazy day now and then. The cats were outside with me and were communing with the birds. It's so cool to have trained cats. I worked very hard on them the first couple of years and it's all paid off as I don't worry about them catching the birds that I've invited for supper.....the bird's supper, not the cats'.

Musical selections today are for the birds. This little Be Good Tanya's song, The Littlest Birds, became famous when it was featured in a Gap commercial. A Bird's Song by Ingrid Michaelson is a nice relaxing number, my kind of music today.

For a linkI've chosen Van der Woning Photography. He may be listed in my regular links, I'm not sure. He is a canadian photographer that I've had bookmarked for years because he takes really great photos of ducks. He has lots of categories other than "swimmers" so check him out.
