Busier Than ......

Everything is sparkling and shiny in my house. I've had a real spring cleaning day. Every surface has been wiped, cleaned or scrubbed. My hands have that dried out feeling that only a liter of Mr. Clean can bring and I am quite pooped. Not pooped enough to stop mind you. I will have this break and continue the assault on the house in a bit. I am expecting the sis-in-law to drop by so may get another break. I was outside very little today so getting outdoors is my plan for tomorrow. Balance is always the aim.

I bought a gorgeous piece of antique furniture yesterday in my travels. The store called a while ago to say that a mistake had been made and that the item had been sold previously and the sign taken off. I'm very disappointed. I planned to out my whole collection of CD's in this wonderful cupboard. He said, I'll give you a credit and I told him that it would be cash only for a refund. He did agree to that.

Today's music is 'music to clean by'. Usually the faster and more fun, the better but it's not a rule. I used to have a favorite double album, cassette tape of James Brown that I played for cleaning. I still use it sometimes but today I chose a bunch of songs in just a few minutes and these stand out. Working in a Coalmine by Lee Dorsey easily fits the theme but is not fast. Funky music is rhythmic and this song, A Funk I Won't Forget by Lauren Ianuzzi says a lot, is fast, and thus works really well for the housecleaning genre.

I hope I am more rested tomorrow when I'm here than I am right now.

Short and Sweet

I heard today that the space shuttle and space station were very visible in our sky last night at close to nine o'clock. I actually had looked at the stars for a moment at about nine-thirty but didn't know then that they were to be visible. The person who told me said that the sighting was really beautiful. Who knew?

Speaking of beautiful things, isn't Ms MacKenzie (Kenz) a beautiful thing? I treasure my kitties every day. She poses and Bella doesn't like her photo taken so I have many more photos of Kenz. Clarke posed too but usually rolled over onto his back eventually, as an invitation to come pet him.

We've had the most beautiful day, perfect for working really, so I've changed my mind about posting songs about rain and storms. It just wouldn't feel right. I start a playlist every day when I first sit down to blog. It so happens that the first three on today happen to be under three minutes. One is already uploaded and is still here, so hear you go. Already uploaded, Lee Dorsey's familiar version of Workin' In a Coalmine and a version by Devo. Another oldie, Swing Low Sweet Chariot by Annuals.

Walk Around The Lake

Music has taken hold of me this weekend. I can't get enough. My ears are ringing. I did step away for it a bit when I called Brody and sat outside while we talked. I was bundled up in a sweater and jacket but the sun was shining. I wasn't sure if I'd recognize the yellow orb, it's been so long. I've been making playlists getting ready to burn some cd's for some friends.

My computer is acting weird all of a sudden. I just typed the whole previous sentence and only a few words were up on the screen. What's up with that?

The photo above is of a statue in downtown Barrie, Ontario. It's a wonderful sculpture and what I like best is that the "wing feathers" or "fish knives" sway in the wind. I didn't realize that till this recent visit. I've photographed it before but it must have been a calm day.
From Wikipedia: On 12 June - 13 June 1987, a sculpture called Spirit Catcher by Ron Baird was moved to Barrie from Vancouver, British Columbia, where it had been exhibited as part of Expo '86. The sculpture was erected permanently at the foot of Maple Avenue on the shore of Kempenfelt Bay.

Music for today is from the playlist I'm working on. Here is Lee Dorsey with an oldie but goody, Workin' In A Coalmine. Walk Around The Lake is from the band with the coolest name this week, Lost In The Trees. Kind of like me being lost in the music. I think there's a theramine (I don't know the spelling) used as an instrument in this song. I've got to research this band. I've heard two songs and like them a lot.

Coincidence Number Three:
A bullet that reached its destiny years later
Henry Ziegland thought he had dodged fate. In 1883, he broke off a relationship with his girlfriend who, out of distress, committed suicide. The girl's brother was so enraged that he hunted down Ziegland and shot him. The brother, believing he had killed Ziegland, then turned his gun on himself and took his own life. But Ziegland had not been killed. The bullet, in fact, had only grazed his face and then lodged in a tree. Ziegland surely thought himself a lucky man. Some years later, however, Ziegland decided to cut down the large tree, which still had the bullet in it. The task seemed so formidable that he decided to blow it up with a few sticks of dynamite. The explosion propelled the bullet into Ziegland's head, killing him. (Source: Ripley's Believe It or Not!)
