Any Questions?

I got a card and photos from my grandchildren today. It brought back memories of my visit at Easter thus the photo today of the walk in the woods I took with the grandkids and my son. I had asked my son to take some photos suitable for framing of me and the kids to put in empty frames I had brought to the kids. He got excellent shots. I think he's a born photographer now that I've seen those and the ones he took of my grandson and me that are gracing the masthead of this blog. This is his photo as I'm the subject (along with my grandson).

I took my friend who is in his nineties for a ride today. I had banking to do an a couple of other short stops and insisted he come along though I had some urging to do. It's good for him. I gave him his belated birthday gift, a pint of whiskey, and he was very pleased about that. He gets in a rut and doesn't want to move. Much like the person I had visiting yesterday. I'm trying to do my part in getting people moving.

I had my lawn professionally mowed today. Too long a story. I traded my wonderful roto tiller a few years ago for a summer's professional mowing. It is a wonderful thing to not have to deal with but pricey. My son is paying for it this time as he has been in Chicago since Friday and didn't take care of the lawn so agreed to pay to have it done. It looks great!

Ha, I just did a search on my blog for the song, As Long As I'm Movin'. I had it here not long ago by Ruth Brown but have it by someone else but can't remember who. Anyway, My friend's 92nd birthday that was two years ago came up. It deserves a link just for the picture of him.

"Where Have You Been?" was the first question asked me today when I showed up at his nursing home. Andrea Marcovecci answered.

"Are You Lonely?", I asked. Denison Witmer answered.

Winter's Embrace

For some reason the surprise songs I posted yesterday did not work. I do it the same way every day. After I found out that they weren't working I went back and did the same steps again, the ones I always do, and everything worked fine. When I entitled the post, Hiccup, I had no idea that it was going to turn into one.

I had another hiccup this week, a cooking failure. Not a failure where we couldn't eat the food or anything like that. Just something that wasn't up to par; didn't reach the grade of delicious. My baked beans got the failing grade. I've been baking beans for forty years and have always had them turn out. I think I was short on something, probably the molasses.

The cold spell continues into it's 3rd or 4th day. There is an end in sight with temps of -10 forecast for Sunday or Monday. It was never anything we couldn't handle; it was just cold.

There is no particular theme to the music today. Lots of people have covered Streets of Philadelphia but no one does it like it's creator, Bruce Springsteen. Here's I live version I picked up somewhere. The Gift of Grace by Denison Witmer is a nice quiet song that will fit today. Staying nice and quiet is what the cold weather tends to make us want to do.

Ghosts

I've earned a rest so am going for an early post today . I've been working like a fiend and have most of my outside chores finished. Enough for today anyway. I can finish up tomorrow. I need a bit of help with some heavy lifting too. It's lovely outside at fifteen degrees but the sun didn't come out as forecast. Maybe tomorrow.

The birds finally showed up at the feeders so I had some retraining to do with the cats. They've been conditioned not to bother birds but required a bit of a refresher. I think they'll be fine. I hope so anyway because they're outside together now.

My daughter's best friend is coming for supper tonight. She was almost part of the family at one time and has had many a meal here but not for a while. My daughter has always been surrounded by an entourage and with her gone, I've been missing having the young people around.

I recently discovered Denison Witmer and his new album entitled COVERS. Is There a Ghost, a Band of Horses' cover, reminds me of the ghost of all the young people's voices that once filled this house. It's amazing all the changes and stages a household goes through. This simple quiet version of I Can't Make You Love Me is nice too.
