Groovin' and Movin'

It has been a wet Monday and a good excuse to stay in today to do housework. You'd swear a couple of Neanderthals lived here with the mess the house gets in sometimes. A rainy day is just the excuse you need to sort it out.

I just finished making a bouquet with the dregs of last week's flower sale purchases, the last of the daffodils and some forsythia branches. As I was turning the vase to see which side to face out on the table I noticed a hornet crawling around on one of the daffodils. I had brought it in without knowing - for the umpteenth time. I must remember to check more carefully.

Today I am showing another painting by my aunt. This too is done on porcelain. I'll show a canvas next time. I love this. It's not that the girl looks like me but in my grade one photo, my hair is cut much the same and my eyes have the same look so I've always had a soft spot for it. You can see from last week's painting that my aunt does grapes excellently and this week portraits as well. I wish I had half the talent. You have to click to enlarge to give the work justice.

Doing housework today I had some groovin' music blasting to hurry the jobs along and make them more pleasant as well. Here's It Don't Mean a Thing by Club des Belugas. Completely Covered in Snow

Many, many people on Prince Edward Island got their workouts today courtesy of Mother Nature. I neither danced or walked, no, I shoveled. We had very wet, heavy snow again this storm. Just like last week's, it was perfect for snowmen. We got more snow this week, about 30 cm. but the winds weren't as relentless for the second day like last week's two day run. Obviously, I canceled my appointment in town and luckily, was able to be rescheduled for the same time tomorrow.

I've not been complaining about the winter weather as most people have. I was so glad to be able to get out out this year, to shoot a camera, to drive, and get along without assistance. I am now though, registering an official complaint. I would like the snow to stop. I would like this morning's snow to be the last I see for this season. It's not a lot to ask. It is the last day of March afterall and spring is everywhere else south or west of us on the continent.

Continuing with my decision to show no more snow photos here is a little pig I got a shot of when I was visiting the Percheron horse and donkey on Saturday. There were several different breeds of pigs I'd never seen before. They're being grown organically and are all pre-sold.

I'm making a children's CD today so I will take from that for this post. Dan Hicks would have to make an appearance in any children's music I would come up with. My oldest grew up on Dan Hicks and Bob Dylan. He happened to lean more toward the Bob Dylan. I'm a Dan Fan. Here's his version of C'mon a My House, an oldie that he does best of all and The Euphoneous Whale which is his best song for children. A song that entranced me when I was a kid is included too but who knows how my grandchildren will react to it. Here's The Marvelous Toy by the Chad Mitchell Trio.

I'm a Dan Fan

Gosh it's nine am already and I'm not half through all I have to do this morning before work at noon. I'm going to have to get up earlier than five-thirty if I want to post anything longer than a photo and some music links. Since I can't go backward in time and actually slept in a bit, this is the best I can do.

I'm going to feature the wonderful Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks today. Today's photo of apple blossoms on my Shutterchance blog goes better with the first song than today's photo of apple blossoms here. I loved this group so much back in the seventies but only hear of them when I visit Dan's website. Garden in the Rain is the song for today but let me tell you that the song has nothing to do with our weather. We are sunny and warm and it's like heaven here. Fun songs are a trademark of Dan and His Hot Licks. Here's My Cello in that vein. Here's a couple more... Done It Again

I'm starting late and I'm expecting company so this may be long and drawn out over time. Having had a glorious half hour out in the sunshine with the kitties is my reason for being late. The warm, beautiful sunshine is very welcome.

I arrived a day early for an appointment this morning. I believe I may have reported that happening once since starting this blog over three years ago. I once arrived at the annual music festival, where my son was playing in the jazz band, and there wasn't a car in the parking lot of the theater where it was being held. I couldn't understand it. That was the first time. This was the third. I hate when that happens. Worst is I have to drive back over to this appointment tomorrow and with the new high price of gas.....

Amazingly PEI's price controlled gas went up at midnight and so did world oil prices to $112. Just after saying yesterday my fears of how our economy won't be able to handle it. I feared that type of increase too as they're predicting even higher costs for oil this summer. Out price on PEI will rise again on April 30th most certainly.

Doomy and gloomy. Sorry. I have the perfect song. I Scare Myself is from Dan Hicks. Kat played some Dan yesterday too. I still have a couple of vinyls of Dan Hicks and His Hotlicks and love to share. Three Days!

I've probably said this before - I love Friday! Getting off work an hour early may not seem like much but it makes a huge difference, I find. Especially after working the night before. I like schedules and the night work once every two weeks messes me up. I've got three days off though I'm working a shift at another job on Sunday. I kind of need the break. I have a friend coming out for the day and night tomorrow which will be great fun.

I found a little baby mouse outside at work yesterday. He was still at the same place today. I moved it out of the window well and gave it some cheese and water. It didn't acknowledge either and had moved away from the cheese after a while. I doubt if it will make it. I certainly couldn't bring it home as the cats would have thought I was bringing a treat. Oh, well! Poor mousie.

I haven't played any Dan Hicks or Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks in a while. I've been a huge fan since the early seventies and play him a lot. It's time to do it here. Here's Dan with Walk Right In and The Hot Licks help out on C'mon a My House, one of my favorite of his songs. It is one of the disappeared ones but it's back again.

Frosty Window

It's been a day of music, painting, and photography. I've enjoyed all three. Had work related phone calls and e-mails to deal with but it's all necessary.

The temp has moderated this afternoon and we're expecting snow, then rain tomorrow. I may be cancelling my eye appointment. Winter is here. You usually think it happens gradually but with this sharp turn, you know that that is not always the case.

Music: Made a cd for a friend today. The songs for today are on it. C'mon A My House by Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks and Never Letting Go by Phoebe Snow. Both were very big with me in the seventies. I still play a lot of the music from then in all my playlists. Soul, gospel, Joni, Van, Leonard, The Bob, Neil, and on and on and on. Anyway it's music that sticks with you. Good on a cold winter day.

I'm unsure of what to do about the music page. Five hundred songs is just around the corner. It's hard to look after now because I often have to go through lists to see if something has been uploaded. Some have been twice. I'm still pleaing for a computer geek friend who could advise me.

Oh my! The said playlist just reached the climax of this song and then moved into this, then this ........bonus tracks. See the work I go to....LOL. That actually took a lot of time.
