Alone Again Or

I've just come from a little Sunday afternoon rest. It was supposed to be a nap but the phone kept ringing. It's a perfect day to curl up. The wind is howling. We had a couple of inches of snow overnight and its cool enough that it didn't melt off today. The photo is of my sister exploring around the pond yesterday. We'd had some fresh fallen snow that made everything pretty again but the afternoon temps and sunshine made it all melt off.

My sister is gone - back to her own life. I was so sorry for her to go. She kept me in line. Not once did I move heavy furniture or carry rocks. That was a harder job than it sounds. I carry mountains of rocks and say that's what's kept me in shape for all these years. I will also have the task of trying to pay as much attention to Bella as my sister did. Bella is a cat with constant needs and my sister fulfilled them leaving no meow unheeded. Those are big shoes to fill and I'm sure that in this matter I will fail. There will be a lot of meowing around here for a while.

Twice in the last while I had to change a gender word in a song title to make it fit. Today it's Who's Going To Help Brother Get Further by Allen Toussaint and Elvis Costello. I want to change Brother to Sister. It is a given that Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves would be a selection today. So is Alone Again Or by Calexico.

Back Again Later

Just returned from supper where I had trout caught in this lake this morning. I actually saw my friend fishing there when I drove by. Oh, oh. Maybe I'll have to put the photo up later. Blogger is having a problem and they're working on it.

I found out that the man I took my elderly friend to see last week is in a nursing home. That is why he was not at home when we went to his house. We visited him at his new residence today and had a great visit. I had errands to run deep in the country, wanted to stop at a site for some photos and generally, we had a wonderful day driving through the gorgeous autumn landscape. Tis good for the soul, this kind of weather. Then I had a dinner where I was not the cook. Fabulous!

Just tried the photo again - no go. There is a scheduled outage about an hour from now. Probably after that.....

Music: Calexico always amazes me. Most bands have a sound. Calexico has two. They have their folky side and their Latin side and they're hardly related. They amaze, I say. Here's Deep Down from their folky side and Guero Canelo from their Latin side. I add their latin sounds to dance cd's that I make. Good dance rhythms.

Fatal Spring

Did I mention the weather yesterday? No, I didn't because I was trying to ignore the forecast and hope that "if you don't acknowledge it, it will go away." We are expecting ten centimeters of snow tonight along with some ice pellets....for good measure. You know it would have to be yesterday that I had my snow tires removed for the season.

The daffodils will recover I suppose though the weight of the snow may make them lie down. The tulips are about to bloom. This may set them back because the temps are supposed to be cold for a few days. I think we are getting some rain as well, but I'm not sure. We've had snow this late before but it's always depressing because we Maritimers need spring after our long winters.

I'll let Calexico tell you about it. Their songs, Cruel and Fatal Spring, describe tonight's weather perfectly.

Coincidence Number Thirteen: Swapped Hotel Findings
In 1953, television reporter Irv Kupcinet was in London to cover the coronation of Ellizabeth II. In one of the drawers in his room at the Savoy he found found some items that, by their identification, belonged to a man named Harry Hannin. Coincidentally, Harry Hannin - a basketball star with the famed Harlem Globetrotters - was a good friend of Kupcinet's. But the story has yet another twist. Just two days later, and before he could tell Hannin of his lucky discovery, Kupcinet received a letter from Hannin. In the letter, Hannin told Kucinet that while staying at the Hotel Meurice in Paris, he found in a drawer a tie - with Kupcinet's name on it! (Source: Mysteries of the Unexplained)

Saturday Snow

Storm watch was cancelled and we had no weather last night but had a couple of inches of snow this morning. It was nice to get out to walk in it. I should have made a snowman. It's very fluffy and pretty. My favorite ex went skiing twice today before coming to visit me. Having a bit of snow has made life soooo exciting!

It was a beef stew kind of day so that was the menu tonight. Delicious, too. Knowing I've cooked beef stew makes my daughter homesick but I talked to her a while ago. She doesn't have to see it here first. I've sent her the instructions but she hasn't attempted it yet.

I've chosen a couple of songs from Calexico for today's music. The songs are very different. Yours and Mine is from their album, Garden Ruin and is a nice quiet ballad. Alone Again Or is from the album Convict Pool and is livelier. They are diverse like that.
