Bad Timing

I have a couple more shots of cedar waxwings for you and as usual, click the photo to enlarge. The top one is nice. I usually share a shot of them every year at this time. I think they are beautiful birds.





I had a better photo to show of this point in the window process but for some reason Blogger wants to upload it sideways. This happened to me not long ago too. The photo shows Side 1 with a first coat of solder. From here the piece is turned over. The base coat of solder and the finish coat is applied to Side 2 then the piece is turned over again for the second layer of solder to Side 1.

My son came home mid day for something and helped me flip it for tomorrow and I can get help from Sis in law after tomorrow. To have it cleaned and polished by Monday is my hope.

The musical choices are for two disappointments I suffered today. One, a friend from New York is coming and will leave two days before I return from my April trip. Two, my daughter called and said her Dad is paying her way home for Easter. Then too I will be gone so will miss her. I am completely bummed. Goin' to Chicago Blues by Ernestine Anderson has never been played here before. Today's the day. My New York friend says that it is happening for a reason, my not being here so the other song for today is If It Be Your Will, not by Leonard but by The Lost Dogs. Ah, heck, here's Leonard's version too.

The Unmade Bed

I had a post three quarters completed yesterday and got called to go to work early. I couldn't use the same post today as it was about Father's Day. I didn't even get to call my Dad but will in a little while. The photo is of my Dad a long time ago - before I was born.

I'm off tomorrow and Wednesday this week. I plan to get out with my camera. I have been running out of photos for the photoblogs. The files have been depleted after a winter of not being able to take photos and I have to replenish them. I need some time to delete some photos too. I tend to keep some that I'll never use; slightly different shots of the same thing. I need to do some weeding.

I heard part of an interview with Leonard Cohen last night. He played here last month and tickets to his show sold out in two hours. I didn't hear about the concert until I heard on the news the day after the tickets were all sold. Today I'll feature one of his songs with a version by him and a live version by Rufus Wainwright. Here's Chelsea Hotel No.2.

Clouds Are Gathering

Getting a late start at this tonight. I've just finished mowing and smell like gasoline exhaust and will be heading to the shower after this. Mowing can't be healthy for you. I know it's hard on my back and lungs.

Today was a really beautiful day. It was 23 degrees which is not too hot....kind of perfect for working. Yesterday was very cool and the next several days are going to be rainy. It's a strange summer. I deal with tourists all day and I find they are actually enjoying our cooler weather because they're coming from someplace hotter and appreciate this relief from the heat.

Tomorrow I may have to wear my raincoat. It's not famous or blue but some certainly are. Here are a couple of versions of Famous Blue Raincoat. The first is, of course, by the originator, Leonard Cohen and the second is from Marissa Nadler.

Blue Alert

I forgot my camera at a friend's house and miss it terribly. I feel lost. It kind of replaced cigarettes in that it was always there for something to do with my hands and concentration if I needed it. I've wanted it several times today.

Way too cold to be walking today. Sunny but windy and cooooold. Did a bunch of dancing instead and in ways, it's more fun. If the weather is fabulous walking is great but if it's too cold or damp or windy it can feel like a chore. Right now an added bonus is the music that goes with the dancing. I never really got onto the mp3 player that I bought after Christmas. I'm always photographing while I walk and the wires and earbuds were just in the way. I need a course in earbud management.

For music I have comparisons or covers, as they're commonly called. Leonard Cohen's song Blue Alert is the song. The singers are Anjani, his sometimes back-up singer and Madeleine Peyroux. Which one do you like?

Halleluja

It's finally here...the last party of the year at my work. I have a finish up day for the year next week and then that's it. Whew! It's been a siege to say the least. S. is coming out to volunteer and have a free dinner and then we're coming back here to have a drink or two and celebrate another year finished. Did I say Whew!?

I heard from my daughter last night. They were close to entering Manitoba, making good time and there was not a blizzard. It was snowing but not too bad. Our weather is warm and sunny. People are complaining about the lack of a white Christmas. Bah!

On the radio right now is kd lang's version of Leonard Cohen's song, Halleluja. The song before that was Ray Charles', Halleluja, I Love Her So. The segment is a kind of special on the word Halleluja. I have lots of versions of Halleluja and a few up on the music page. I also have Ray's song up already. Here are a few more Hallelujas in honour of the last Christmas party. To add to Allison Crowe, kd, Jeff Buckley's versions are a powerful one by Rufus Wainwright and the original by Leonard Cohen himself.
