Bright and Beautiful

Autumn continues and is still beautiful. We were expecting a nor'easter mid-week which would have taken the leaves down but thankfully, it didn't materialize. It is windy and rainy this morning so we won't be walking today. I opted out yesterday which is unusual but had a concert to attend.

I saw Stan Carew and the Magpies at the PEI stop on their theater fund-raising tour. Stan is the host of a very popular, Halifax-based, CBC radio show called Weekend Morning. Stan and I have had correspondences several times over the years so it was great to put faces to the names. The show was very enjoyable with a Texas swing or Rockabilly country style.

I'm hoping for some nice weather this week to finish up the outdoor chores. Saturday was beautiful and I did a bit of these jobs but was quite exhausted from the earlier hike so did not finish. It's ironic that on nice days when it's good for working outside it's good for hiking and rainy or windy days are good for neither. I am still painting chairs so have chores to do no matter the weather.

With the weather forecast featuring Nor'easters and lots of wind and rain these days, I thought I'd provide some appropriate music. First, here's Ollabelle with The Storms Are On the Ocean and a favorite of mine, Buckets of Rain. This Dylan song has been covered many, many times and I have lots of versions but here is the original from The Bob himself.

It's All a Riverside

We're soon going to be prunes if it doesn't dry up around here. The sun actually came out for awhile yesterday but today the heavens opened again and we've had steady rain all day with a thundershower thrown in for dramatic effect. I want to pick some flowers to replenish the vases but will have to don raincoat and boots to get out there.

I was tired today. I go up around six-thirty rather than the usual five thirty and went back to bed for a nap at nine or so. I should be back to normal tomorrow. I hope so. I want to go outside to play. The weather calls for a few showered.

Ollabelle came to mind today when thinking about what to post. Soul of a Man and Before This Time are already up. Down by the Riverside was her but is one of the removed so here it is again and new, never up is Can't Nobody Do Me Like Jesus. Also once up but now gone is All is Well. Maybe another day it will come here again. I like their sound a lot and any excuse....

Believe it or not, I started this at four o'clock. With a couple of phone calls and a visitor it's now 6:33. A strange day for time for many reasons.

The Happy Dance

I made a wonderful discovery today. I have been thinking that my stereo was broken since the night I had a party during an electrical storm back in July or August. I've been using a boom box since then. I discovered today that it is fine and was only unplugged. I guess one of my party guests unplugged it, tired of hearing the same song over and over which was happening each time the power went off momentarily.

I was going to move a lamp that I only use for the stereo and when I went to unplug it, found that it was the only plug in the socket. How happy am I about this? Extremely. I was going to look for a replacement after Christmas as I was frustrated with having to use a terrible boom box if I wanted music to be heard in far corners of the house. I have the computer for use in the immediate room but it's sound doesn't reach far. You have to know I'm happy dancing.

I have a glass commission and I am stressed about the first part, a design. It's the hardest part of the process for me. There is no real hurry so that eases it up a bit.

Music is happy dancing music. First, already up songs One, Two, and Three. New today, Before This Time by Ollabelle and an old, early seventies dance song, Tighten Up with Archie Bell and the Drells. I haven't been on my usual busy hiking schedule and will be going back to dancing on the off days. A bonus now I have good sound that volume won't distort.

Music to Live By

The kids were driving around a golf course on a golf cart when I talked to them last night. They are staying with a friend from here who is a golf pro in Jasper. He had to work so they were hanging out with him. When I call tonight they will be on the road back to Calgary. They had a great time with the Chuckies and Girlie even got to work on time.

I've been making cd's this morning. One has the theme of Higher Ground and one has the theme of Workin' For a Living. Soul of a Man by Ollabelle is on the first. I thought I had it up already but apparently not. I like Ollabelle a lot and don't feature them enough. Since I've provided a link, check them out. You can play their music while on the site. Fisherman's Blues by The Waterboys is a song from the Workin' For a Living cd. I like their sound and have provided a link to them too.

Day Two With No Title

My brother sent this photo to me today. This is the building I went to elementary school in almost fifty years ago. It was burned in a controlled fire as it had been a condemned building for a few years. I love the photo. My sister sent some too that are more firey. How do you spell that? I'm going to try to make a collage of hers but it will take a while as I have to save them all first, etc and I actually need to get away from the computer. STEP AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER! I've been here all day with playlists, e-mail, and various other things. I'ts been pouring all day so I don't feel guilty about not walking but still..........

I have one playlist left to burn. I'm listening to it now and this is the song playing.....# 807 by Pieta Brown. Today's other cut is from a band I've played a bit of on here. I like them and they're doing an oldie in this cut. Down By The Riverside by Ollabelle.

Link: A game I play from time to time to keep the old brain sharp. Geosense is a fabulous geography game that also teaches you geography because the more you play it the more your brain remembers and retains the locations on the map. It's also fun to have two people take turns of games if you like competition because you learn locations by watching another play.

Breathe!

Made it into the woods today. It was glorious. The oxygen levels, the fabulous smells, the fast hiking pace, and the companions combined to get the endorphins racing. I felt so good during the whole adventure and it will last for a while. I'll have the most satisfied sleep tonight. I need the physical me being in the outside and nature at regular intervals to keep those endorphin states occuring. We have snowshowing trips planned for the winter already. Last year we had no snow and didn't get out once.

We are supposed to get a really big wind and rain storm starting around midnight and lasting all day tomorrow.....one hundred kilometer winds. At least it's not winter and not snow. That will come soon enough. Even though I didn't get out snowshowing, I liked the winter with no snow. It was a good break from our relentless winters where having to drive is a major pain in the butt. It's the worst part for me...having to drive in winter.

Music: I found this band a while back , Ollabelle, that I really liked. They have the perfect sentiment for today, All is Well, and Got My Mojo Working, the old version by Clarence Gatemouth Brown, kind of says it too.

The linky part: Something funny with Foreign Signs, you know those funny translations on signs. I have a photo of one from San Felipe in Baja, Mexico with a list of instructions for entering a hotel swimming pool. It says, ''All Patrons Must Worm Bathing Suits." I swear I do.
