Snowed In

A post with no time for talking. I do have a few photos of the blizzard we've had for the last two days. It snowed yesterday but not today but the wind was 60 - 80 km. per hour both days and the drifting was severe. My driveway was plowed out twice since this since this morning and sis in law had a terrible time leaving here after that. My son can drive through anything and will get down, then plowed out again before he gets up in the morning.

The above show approximately the same spot in around twenty six hours. It is still blowing like crazy as I write this thirty hours later.

Most of the ground was bare before this 'spring snowstorm'. Poor man's fertilizer, I explained in 2007. Ha, I found out I talked about it in 2006 as well. Anyway, we really got walloped this year, I think.

The music tonight will come from the past. Nothing new.

Monday It Is

It is snowing. It is not unexpected to get snow in March, anytime in March, and sometimes in April in these parts. That's all I'm going to say about the weather for today. I am not going to scream or say nasty things to bruise your tender senses.

I'm feeling the need to have a few relaxing days so that's what I've been doing. I'm busy enough with some small jobs on the list each day but nothing major. It feels good. I did run some errands and I had a friend in today so I'm not entirely away from it all but I feel I am regarding deadlines or obligations. Mental health days, I've heard them called.

I've been enjoying watching the ducks on the pond. They are in 'fight for your territory' mode. I have two or three pairs of mallards and a pair of black ducks arrived overnight. They were pushed down to the far end of the pond several times today. It is interesting to watch and educational too.

I've got a couple of duets for the musical selections today. I heard a really great harmony on Kat's blog and went for all harmony songs on my playlist since I've sat down. Here's Marc Broussard and Leanne Rimes with When It's Good and a Bob Dylan song I played not long ago sung by The Byrds. This version of You Ain't Goin Nowhere is from Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova

Love and Happiness

I'm enjoying a bit of a lazy day. I had no outside obligations so decided to extend that to home. I didn't walk, didn't dance, puttered at various small jobs but did nothing major. I must say I've enjoyed that. I've been online most of the day. I still will cook a delicious dinner for the boy and me though he probably won't be home till eight or nine. Good food is a must. I am having a pork, peppers and peanut sauce dish, black rice and salad.

The cd I'm making today is called Love and Happiness, something that's always good for a theme. The music is old soul music based but contains new music and covers of some of the old songs. If I Ain't Got You by Alicia Keys is a perfect example of a new soul song. I would have loved it if it had been around in the 70's. Thinkin' Bout You, from Bettye LaVette's 2003 album A Woman Like Me, was on my music pages before and has disappeared and is one that should be returned. I love her style with this slow, sexy ballad. An example of a cover is Al Green's Love and Happiness by Marc Broussard. It has disappeared from the pages too, I just discovered, so you get three songs today.

Beautiful Winter

I love that it is staying lighter longer in the evenings. A month ago it would be almost dark now at 4:30. This morning at eight, the full moon was still quite visible in the northwest and a beautiful streaky pink sky covered the southeast. It was so truly beautiful! I wanted to be outside walking but had to be somewhere and had a ride. I have a friend coming for a visit for a few days and she loves to walk so I'm happy to know I'll put a few miles on.

There was one aspect of country living that has bothered me for the twenty-four years I've lived out here. If you don't feel like cooking supper, too bad, you still have to cook supper. There are no pizza parlors nearby. We have a restaurant in the neighbourhood but it is closed for the season. More than not wanting to cook is the fact that I want pizza and I don't want to make it. Oh well, I just have to bite the bullet.

Marc Broussard did great covers of some old soul songs and this, Come In From the Cold. I had his version of Al Green's great song, Love and Happiness back in September. Cold to Colder is a song by Sasha Dobson that fits with the weather earlier this week. I love her song, Spring Is Just Around The Corner that I've had up a couple of times.

Now if that's true, it's time for walking.

Al Green Rocks

I'm working late afternoons and evenings this week so this will be my new blogging time for a bit.

My son who lives here in PEI had some business in Atlanta and is now on a much deserved vacation for a couple of weeks. I knew all of his plans but it didn't occur to me that he would be flying from the USA to Canada on September 11th. My sister-in-law told me he was nervous about it but hadn't told me. Suddenly I was really worried, almost panicy. The phone rang at that instant, less than two minutes after I was told about this and it was my son to tell me he was at my daughter's apartment in Calgary. Whew!!

I have a couple of versions of a great old song today. Love and Happiness was a big hit for Al Green in the early seventies. It's been copied by Marc Broussard, who has done covers of quite a few old soul songs. I wore out a few Al Green albums back in the seventies and still listen to him a lot, especially live cuts. He's now known as the Right Reverend Al Green. I always get a kick out of that.
