A Dreaming Day

I've had the best kind of day. I felt I needed a day doing nothing in particular but changing my bed and doing laundry. I hung out sheets and blankety things, did all the folding outside, and spent the day doing just light chores but always outside. I only came in for meals and Oprah. What a glorious day! I took photos of dandelions, though they are still in the camera. I made a tiny bouquets of tiny flowers, violets and forget-me-nots, a bleeding heart. I invited a friend for supper but by voicemail. Told her she could come even if she got this at five to six. I always have lots. It's been a perfect day so far.

This song just came to mind - Happy by Martin Sexsmith. He is one of the best performers I've ever seen live so I have a soft spot for him. He was peforming solo and sounded like a whole band. I will never forget him. He has this really telling song, I Thought I Knew You. Happens to us all, eh?

Just got off the phone with my aunt. She and my uncle have just put her beautiful beach home on the market, and are looking for something with one floor. Darn, some of these age related health matters can reduce you to tears. They want to stay in their dream house forever but living on three levels is just too tough for them to manage.

Maybe if they find a lucky feather on the beach...

For My American Friends

Just saw, when signing in that this is my 7ooth post. I feel a little bad because I really only have time to post some music today. I promised a friend on another blog that I would put a song on yet another blog to celebrate the American holiday today. That's the music for here today too. I saw Martin Sexton seven years ago this weekend and bought his self-titled album at this time. He was amazing in concert. With just an acoustic guitar, he somehow sounded like a whole band. I like his albums but live he is incredible. That's certainly not the case with everyone. Sometimes the albums are better. This is Martin's rendition of America The Beautiful. He is playing this weekend at Stanfest, where I saw him seven years ago. Another Americana song is The Battle of New Orleans. It's been by a whole lot of individuals bands. Here it is by The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.

Happy Independence Day, y'all!

Happy Monday

Surprise! It is Monday and I am here after all. I had a heart to heart, private conversation with my boss. She has reinstated my original schedule thankfully, and I will not have to work a fourteen hour Monday. i think I would have needed a couple of days to recover. On Saturday, a normal busy day, my pedometer registered 28,337 steps which is almost twenty-four kilometers. That was from a ten hour shift. Can you imagine fourteen hours at that pace. A marathon is twenty-six so on a really busy day I walk over a marathon. All that said, I can't wait till tomorrow for my two days off.

There were thousands of tourists on the island this weekend for the Festival of Lights in Charlottetown. One of the highlights are concerts of many, rock and pop bands for three nights. My son bought a three day pass and a group of his university friends came over from Halifax. Last night was cold and rainy. I wouldn't have wanted to be standing outside in that for anything! But the twenty-somethings thought nothing of it. They had a great time. Son said that it only downpoured for the first and last bands - perfect timing. OK then.

There are two songs of the day today. One is Private Conversation by Lyle Lovett; the other is Happy by Martin Sexton, who is one of the best acts I've ever seen in concert. He is at Stanfest in Canso, NS next weekend which is where I saw him a few years ago.

I feel like a new woman today instead of one filled with dread.

Napping With Martin Sexton

Funny Looking Kenz

The nap I went for yesterday didn't happen but one found me today. Wonderful, wonderful!! There is nothing like a nap on a weekend afternoon. A lot of the time women feel guilty when they're not being busy and useful. Somehow we can let go of that on a weekend and feel we deserve it. Some may choose to "sleep in" instead of the nap but it's all the same. Oh well, one small step in fighting woman's guilt disease.

The universe has it's way, you know. After writing Friday's post featuring a song by Martin Sexton, I got curious about what he was up to. I'll send you here to find out yourself. Anyway, Martin has an album being released on Tuesday. How is that for timing?!

The site has a music player installed and also allows some downloads. I have to sample these two songs for you that I got there. Time (no, not since Friday) has not lessened my admiration for Martin Sexton. He is very, very talented and truly has the most unique style! These songs are from a live show and are really great!! So check out these songs and and his website and if you live nearer a record store than I do, buy a cd from a fantasticly talented musician. Here is Where Did I Go Wrong and Beast In Me.

I could never have a music blog where you discriptively write about the musician, band or songs. I'm not a descriptive kind of writer but I know good music. Martin Sexton is good music whether the universe is telling me to say this or not.

Puppy Kisses

I live in a two channel universe. Yes, only two channels. You'd think I resided on the dark continent or somewhere remote but it's just a choice. I kick myself though, when I hear about something as exciting as the Discovery Channel's Sunday night broadcast, Planet Earth. Oprah was just promoting it and I've been hearing about it elsewhere. It's the kind of TV or movie I really enjoy. It is going to be available on DVD, a coffee table book is going to be published, and next year a movie will be released. That's good news for me because...I live in a two channel universe.

Town day today - errands and some fun too. Friends who make you laugh are worth their weight in gold. I can never let enough laughter. I had to shovel myself out at the top of the driveway and am hoping we have some melting because otherwise I have more shovelling to get down to the bottom.

I discovered Martin Sexton at the same folk festival where I first heard The Waifs in 2001. I bought his CD, Black Sheep and it is very good but it didn't do justice to his live performances. He is one of the best live performers I've ever seen just because of his personal energy. He seemed to connect with each of the audiences and was a natural percussionist with little beats here and there on his guitar. I have the cd but didn't have any on my computer. I picked up a song today which I share with you now. Here's Glory Bound. Because today I left my remote little two channel universe and headed to the big city, here's Sinead Lohan with Out of the Woods. I've direct linked them and will try to do that most days but you can find them on Page Two.
