A Journey Nonetheless

Continuing with the documentation of the window process that I'm on I will ask you for a favor. If I can figure out how to make a poll, it would be swell to ask you a question at the end. For some reason the photo above is presenting vertically even though my file is horizontal.

I marked pattern pieces onto glass today on large sheets of glass. I cut the large sheets into smaller pieces. It took longer than it did in the past just because I have to ensure that I've done everything correctly in terms of the geometry of possibility for cutting, economical usage of glass, artistic integrity, and all those other things that were on automatic at one time.

I had to think harder and check and recheck things. I had to make an oil blend for the cutter and get the cutting table cleaned off. The aim of these old cutting hands veered off a couple of times but I think that's because I'm shorter. Some of these pieces of glass are big! The photo above is of all the glass I have to cut tomorrow, not much compared to what it looked like earlier.

Now about the sun. I have red iridescent glass that could be used for the sun. It would change the piece from realism to something else. I think the sun would stand out and at night it would be completely visible and apparent inside the room. The glass above is the red iridescent and the photo below is the sky colour. The poll is on the sidebar.

Is there still room for music? Any requests out there? Here are some possibilities. George Jackson has Aretha, Gillian Welsh with Elvis Presley Blues. Even Ry Cooder has a request with Johnny Cash.

March Madness

Music is definitely on my mind today. I heard an old Don Gibson song yesterday by M Ward and Lucinda Williams that I can't get out of my head. If I do manage to get it out of my head other country songs from that same late 60's era pop in and I'm stuck again. Lets have and old-time music party. When I say old time I mean only the song itself. There are modern covers which I love too. Perhaps if I listen to every one of these songs a couple of times over, they will make room for something new tomorrow. My mom would love this bunch of songs. Every one of them remind me of her.Ready?
I'm sure I have another version of Sea of Heartbreak but can't find it. I have another Oh Lonesome Me as well. On my walk today I was singing aloud walking down the road. Glad it's winter and car windows are up and I don't have neighbours.

Indian Summer!

What a wonderful "Indian Summer" day it's been! I did a whole lot of gardening and outdoor chores. Friends dropped by unexpectedly and we had a grand time. We had refreshments on the deck as it was wonderfully warm and sunny. We took a drive to the beach and encountered two hang gliders playing in the breeze. They steered themselves up and down the coast. A couple in leathers, on one motorcycle, were there too. They had seen them as they were driving along and knew they were about to glide along the beach so took the first road that looked like it was going to the shore. Turned out my son was at the next beach up so was under them too.

I got two of the lilies planted finally but am waiting on one as it still has three buds that are going to bloom. I want to keep it on the porch to bring it in on heavy frost nights. I don't have enough knowledge about lilies to know if I am giving it the correct treatment.

If you like scat singing I have a link for you. I found this fabulous YouTube video of Sarah Vaughan and just love it. The control that woman had and the rich voice. I just love Sarah Vaughan. I haven't had any of her up in a while and I think she has some autumn songs....

I haven't featured any Madeleine Peyroux for a while. I heard she has a new album coming out. My aunt and uncle had taped an evening's concert of Madeleine and her band for me to see when I was visiting them in the spring. It was fabulous. She has a kind of peculiar phrasing but it's what sets her apart. Here's This Is Heaven To Me and I'll Look Around. She always has a great band which in itself is worth a listen.

The above paragraph is from a July '07 post and that has the perfect music for today's hang glider post. If the links above don't work go there through this link. Here are a couple more that have already been featured on the blog. Nothing new today. Comin' In on a Wing and a Prayer by Ry Cooder and Try Your Wings by Blossom Dearie. That will have to do tonight. I want to continue this wonderful day.

Sunshiny Day

It is finally above zero. Sis and I had a walk around (not really around) the pond and it felt wonderful out in the sunshine. We picked up some broken glass along the side of the road and even a chore like that was nice - just to be out on a warm day. Just realized the American readers may be confused but our zero Celsius is equal to your thirty-two Farenheit.

It is the ten year anniversary of the passing of my mother today. I've honoured it all day in many ways. I picked out new photo's to display of her, talked to her, cried a few times, once with my sister, wrote a note to my dad's partner, who supported my mom greatly in her last couple of years and am not finished yet. She was the most important person ever in my life. I need to perform rituals on anniversaries and special days. I always have. I had funerals over fish guts for God's sake. I can imagine how hard it must have been for Mom not to laugh at that. She had a fabulous sense of humour that was cut short at age fifty-two of early onset Alzheimers. She died at sixty.

For my mom I'm linking to a post from the past Mother's Day, because for it, I had already uploaded a Patsy Cline song and a wedding photo of my parents. My mom loved Patsy though did not recognize her in the last couple of years of her life. I brought a cd over and she said, That's not Patsy Cline." Here are Patsy's songs Crazy and Walkin' After Midnight. She also loved Jim Reeves. Hmm, kind of ironic that they both died at a young age. I remember all of their music from the era that it was popular as Mom and I would sing along with the albums. Here is Jim with He'll Have To Go. Ry Cooder does a fine job of that song too. I think she would have liked it.

Brown Water Day

I didn't lose trees today but there were certainly a lot toppled across the neighbourhood today and overnight. We've had a terrific wind storm with toppled trees and power outages across PEI and New Brunswick. Bad weather was good for business in my case, so I had a very busy day at work.

I needed an indoor day. It's been so very hot and humid and I've spent a lot of time outdoors in the heat. It was good to be inside and cool for a change. I am hoping to be able to stay up till ten tonight. I finally feel caught up. I have phone calls and e-mails to catch up on but maybe not all will be taken care of tonight. I'm off tomorrow so can finish up then.

I'm so bummed out with my music disappearing. I use the uploaded songs daily on the Shutterchance blog and my choices have been very much limited by the disappearance. I will carry on and see what happens with Putfile for the time being.

Though I'm trying to get some additional relaxation in my life right now, it needs a beat. Ry Cooder can usually provide one. I can get both relaxation and a rhythm from his instrumental, Drume Negrita and some relaxing and rhythmic inspiration from Comin' In On a Wing and a Prayer. Sounds like my life lately. I've got to get some dance music up soon as I have been too busy to do a lot of walking and have to remedy that.

Music To Go

You won't hear me say this often but I've had enough music for a bit. Of course, I say that but have music playing while I type. I've steadily been burning cd's since yesterday. Each one takes hours as they have to be just right, flowing corrrectly from one to another. I have more to do but will wait till tonight or Monday.

The photo today is the same spot as two days ago, just a few minutes earlier. Sunset on water is always pretty.

Our storm fizzled and we got only about five centimeters in the end....not bad at all seeing as it is all absorbed already. Spring has sprung, snow or not.

Some latin leanings is what I've chosen for music today. Muy Fifi by Ry Cooder is one I always add to my dance playlists. It's so catchy and seems to stay with you. Tropicalia by Eliane Elias is wonderful jazz sung in English but with a latin feel.

Bird and Song

The most amazing thing just happened. I was watching Oprah and I heard a bird hit my kitchen window. I finished watching the segment, went out to the kitchen and saw this little nuthatch sitting on the rail with it's beak open and it's head at an odd angle. It's not the first time this has happened. I knew to just leave it be and hope that a hawk was not nearby. Sure enough, it flew off in about five minutes. A headache is probably in this birds future today.

Today's walk was interesting. The snow that fell was quite heavy so when the plows went by, the heavy snow they threw knocked down road signs. There were some beautiful drifts and it was a landscape not seen all winter. Certainly it was our biggest storm of the year.

The spring birds have arrived back from their southern vacation. Robins and starlings are devouring the apples in my back yard where there is no snow. With all the wind I have a lot of bare areas as well as, at the most, three foot drifts. Below is a photo though it's not that good. There are lots of these areas and I have maybe seventy or eighty birds at a time. I have a female red-wing blackbird as well though the males usually come back first.

I have two versions of a song to compare for your musical pleasure today. I've had this Lila Downs version of Cancion Mixteca for years and love it. I play it a lot! I recently came across this version by Ry Cooder. It is very different than Lila's and I really like it too. It is more of a lullaby and Lila's is about as far away from a lullaby as you can get. Just noticed the songs on Page Two have reached fifty. Long ways to go for five hundred.
