Joni Day

We are having our third storm this week. Last week was a wonderful January thaw and the week before that, four storms. We survive it all somehow, the changeable weather, and a guy I knew, who liked Canadian girls back in the sixties, figured that's what makes Canadians so tough. It may be true.

I've been spending more time on the computer lately. There sure are a lot of great blogs out there, something for everyone's taste. There are new ones every day and last posts every day. Several I read all the time dwindled then quit altogether. I can certainly see that happening here, where I get so little feedback. I am visiting one tomorrow for it's first post ever. The blogger and I have almost identical musical tastes.

I've had several conversations about Joni Mitchell today. Since that is so, she'll provide today's music. These are both from her Both Sides Now album of 2ooo. This album, with it's symphony orchestra, takes me away to another place. I cried the first time I heard this version the title song, Both Sides Now. Don't Go to Strangers and this version of Stormy Weather will take me there again. I found that Stormy Weather was already up so here is Don't Worry 'Bout Me from that same album.

Freak Snowstorm

We are in the midst of a snow storm. It was supposed to snow overnight, be fine today and snow again tonight. It's been snowing since I got up this morning and the wind came up this afternoon so it's a real blizzard out there. There are at least ten cm. down and maybe more. It's hard to tell with the drifting. I need milk and may not be getting any.

It's snowing in Calgary today too. My daughter's birthday is Monday and her room mate's is today. They are having a birthday party tonight in a local bar. I believe it's walking distance so the snow shouldn't affect them.

Back to essential music. Today is the later version of Both Sides Now. I cried the first few times I heard this version. It was meant to be sung by a mature woman and is my favorite Joni song. I'm adding to the versions of Stormy Weather today too. Joni does a fine job of this standard and joins Willie Nelson , Dinah Washington, Sarah Vaughan.

Tropical Storm Watch

We are on tropical storm watch as we have been downgrades from a hurricane. Parts of the Maritimes will be getting winds of 150 km per hour. Those are some pretty fierce winds. My deck is naked and looks so strange. My sis-in-law helped me move the trays of rocks off to the barn and my son is here now to help me with the rest. The barbecue is next. I usually only clear the deck at the first sign of snow so it's a bit early to be staring at a bare deck.

I have a staff meeting in a while and don't know how long it will last so am posting early. When I come back, I'll be cooking supper for the boy and I. He likes his mama's cooking.

I don't know how many versions of Stormy Weather I have. It's an old American standard that I really like. I can not believe there are none up thus far but I'll remedy that. Here's a girl version and a boy version. Dinah Washington or Willie Nelson. I believe Leon Russell is playing piano in Willie's version.Which one do you like? If neither appeal to you I have many more.
I just discovered I have uploaded both of these versions to Page One. I must investigate if they are still reachable through the page.

It Goes On

The photo is of a pre-emerged sunflower. This link is to the mature flower. Pretty cool. Mature was the topic in Moody Monday - linked on the side. The asparagas was also considered in choosing the 'mature' designation for the entry.

Just finished supper and watched the many photos of waterspouts and rainbows yesterday on the evening news. It was pretty wild around here. After my post yesterday following my hike, we had rain, torrential rain, thunder and lightning, hail which was pretty widespread, and actual snow ( in Harrington). I had company in the afternoon and they left in the midst of heavy rain. My son was in hail twice, at his dad's and driving. Wild!

My neighbour is mowing a second crop of hay, clover really, at this moment and the smell is coming into the window in front of me. Hmmmm.

Music: I feel quite free now in choosing music because it doesn't matter if I put it up before. It's probably gone so I'm just uploading it again. Weather like yesterday's should be celebrated or at least acknowleged. My library has a million versions of Stormy Weather. Here's one by Dinah Washington. I posted a different song from her on the Shutterchance blog this weekend and was well received. I like this version a lot. Strange Weather by Tom Waits fits for yesterday as well. Maybe I'll celebrate weather all week.

Stormy Weather

I have a 45 minute break then back to work for the evening. I get to attend a concert and get paid for it. Not bad...

My car was looked at and tested by another mechanic and he is 99 percent sure that I don't need a distributor, the $332. part that Toyota wants to put on. He cleaned the intake today and is going to fix me up on Monday. Mechanics are very busy around here, that's for sure. I just hope this guy can make it all work.

It's pouring out right now, a few hours earlier than forecasted, and very cold too. More rain and storm music would be appropriate, I'd say. I already have Dinah Washington's version of Stormy Weather up. Today I'm adding Willie Nelson and Leon Russell's version, as well as, the wonderful, Sarah Vaughan's.

Now for something to eat.....

Wintery Woes

We had, and are still in the midst of, the very worst snowstorm of the entire winter. Everything on the Island is at a standstill. All the special Easter church services were cancelled as well as most of the family and friend get-togethers. I was invited to two dinners but I, like many people, are not leaving their homes in this.

We got about 38 cm. of snow when 15 to 20 had been forecast. We will get another 15 cm. (or so they estimate) today. The wind is really strong and has thrown a huge drift across my back door. It will be hard to push my way out to shovel when it's all over.

The picture above is of my downstairs bathroom window. Even the upstairs windows are covered in snow. Really amazing!

Music today is a fact, then a wish. Stormy Weather is the fact and this version is from the great Dinah Washington. Sasha Dobson does a fine job with Spring Is Just Around The Corner. That's the wish. Not long ago I was giving spring music and we were having spring weather. Now it's winter again.
